Monday, November 12

World History - Today in world history, we began chapter eight section five, which is titled a time of crisis.  The first part of this section is about the Black Death and that is what we covered in class today. Students should know where it came from and should understand the impact it had on day-to-day life.  Students should also know that the midterm for the quarter is this Wednesday.  Students also know that when we finished chapter eight there will be a test over chapter seven and eight. Students should also be looking for a current events article that will be due at the end of the week.

Government - Today in government, students will get a bit of practice on the FRQs that will be on the AP Exam.  Students were given sample answers to an old question, and will grade the question based on the scoring guide.  When finished with all three, students will be given an FRQ to respond to, and will grade their based on the scoring guide provided.  Students here should be aware that the midterm for the quarter is Wednesday.

Government - In government today, we will finish some work looking at what makes a great president. We will have a few minutes of notes to continue working through chapter six.  And at the end of class, we will take a look at some sample FRQs again, and look a little closer at how those are graded.  For homework, students need to finish reading through chapter six.  In this class, we will be taking a test as well over chapters five and six, and that will probably happen next week.

Monday, November 5

World History - We talked a little news to get things started in class today.  Naturally, a fair amount of the attention was focused on tomorrow's election.  After some news, we worked through chapter seven section four, which is the last section of chapter seven.  This is about the economic advancements made during the middle of the Middle Ages.  Students then worked on the chapter assessment, answering questions 9-17.

Government - We talked about the election as well.  We watched a couple of videos from CNN explaining the course of the election as well as the way the electoral college works.  Students were then given a prompt asking them to predict the winner of tomorrow's election, and provide an arguable reason for making that choice.  We then started notes from chapter six, which happens to be about the presidency.  For homework, students need to read pages 222-242 from the textbook.

Government - Students have presented their sections of either chapter five or chapter six, and now we will go back and highlight a few key pieces of information.  Today, we will focus on chapter five, which is about Congress.  We also will take a look at how an AP Exam Free Response Question is scored to better acquaint the students with that type of question.  Homework for the weekend will be to read the entries in Lanahan on pages 199, 205, and 212.
